  • Dear Students,

As HOD of civil engineering, I welcome you to Future Institute of Technology (FIT) and I am optimistic that we will have an exciting time together for next four years. Civil engineering par-se is considered as the mother of all engineering. It is a unique profession, where people have been striving to expand its horizon from early dawn of civilization. Thus it is no surprise that civil engineers are employed globally in wide spectrum of industries compared to other disciplines like Industrial plants, power, mineral beneficiation, port and harbor, housing, infra-structure development, to even aero-space, ship-building industry and information technology.

Our endeavor at FIT is to groom you in a manner, where you become capable and a competent technologist, that industry is in requirement perennially.

Our state of the art laboratories in concrete, fluid, highway and soil, spearheaded by very competent faculties and technical assistants go a long way in achieving this competency goal. Our advanced CAD laboratory with computers having high speed computing capability geared up by advanced software like AUTOCAD, STAAD-Pro, MS office, MATLAB etc. has carefully planned training modules designed for our students to make them cyber-savvy and proficient in computer analysis of structures and foundations that has a significant global demand.

We are confident that you will enjoy your tenure with us and have an unforgettable learning experience helping you to tread confidently in your future venture.

    Wishing you all the best,
    Dr. Indrajit Chowdhury

Highway & Transportation Laboratory

Highway and transportation engineering is an integral part of the Civil Engineering Department. In FIT our highway laboratory is equipped with some major equipment like Marshall Stability, California Bearing Ratio, Los Angeles Abrasion Testing machine, Impact Value etc. that makes it complete and students are free to do all these tests during their course work in college. The laboratory is such equipped that any kind of tests that are required in industry can be performed here.

Engineering Geology Lab

Engineering geology plays a vital role in civil engineering field of work and have a major impact on soil minerals rocks and the way they interact with each other and we are proud to have all sorts of sample rocks, minerals, their graphical form of learning along with the hardness kit and polarized microscope. The set-up is modern and very informative for the college students taking up this subject.

Survey Laboratory

Surveying is a branch of Civil Engineering which deals with determining the relative positions of different objects on the surface of the earth, by measuring distance between the reference points (both Horizontal & Vertical). This subject is of prime importance in Civil Engineering. Knowledge on this subject helps a civil engineer generate accurate map of a particular area, relative elevations of various points can also be determined. Our Survey Laboratory is well equipped with traditional (Chain, Surveyor’s Compass, Plane Table, etc.) as well as modern equipment (Total Station) that are required for surveying. In addition to regular classes the students are highly encouraged to use the equipment for the purpose of project work and practice of the methods as taught in theoretical classes. The equipments are all of industry standards.

Soil Mechanics Laboratory

Soil mechanics is the application of laws of mechanics and hydraulics to engineering problems dealing with sediments and other unconsolidated accumulations of solid particles produced by the mechanical and chemical disintegration of rocks regardless of whether or not they contain an admixture of organic constituent. The soil mechanics laboratory consists of two separate laboratories, namely Soil Mechanics Laboratory 1 (dealing with identification of soils, their properties, compaction, grain size distribution, etc.) &Soil Mechanics Laboratory 2 (an advanced laboratory, dealing with consolidation and other aspects of foundation engineering). Both the laboratories are such equipped that soil testing of any large project can be performed at ease. Students get adequate exposure to such kind of experiments as lot of data is present in the laboratory to cross check the experiment results as determined during laboratory classes. The students also perform these experiments on their own, apart from regular classes for project work.

Concrete Technology Laboratory

Concrete remains the primary construction material for major structures and buildings. It is an elastoplastic material made up of cement, fine aggregates & large aggregates and mixed thoroughly with water. The Concrete technology Laboratory deals with testing of various properties of green (fresh) concrete and hardened concrete as well as mortar (for example: Workability, Compressive Strength, Mix Design, etc.). The laboratory is well equipped with modern machines calibrated as per industry standards. Here, students can perform various experiments regarding concrete, alternative materials in manufacturing concrete, light weight concrete, etc. proper knowledge in tests in concrete enables proper quality control at site.

CAD Laboratory

Computer Aided Drafting is a modern version of drawing board. Complex drawings can be drawn at much ease and accuracy with a simple command using few CAD software. The CAD laboratory is equipped with computers with high end specifications along with a provision for projector and printing amenities. This lab also provides an exposure to few software of drawing and structural analysis/ Finite Element package. The computers are provided with original latest AutoCAD® by AutoDESK® as well as STAAD Pro V8i ® by Bentley® and high speed internet connectivity.
